Katie,

What a saga !!!!!! Some of my friends with the 3G are equally upset with the performance IOS 4, they complain that the phone apps are now slow as a dog. Some have just given up and bought the new Samsung Galaxy S, so far they love the phone. I plan on hangin with my 3GS till the next iPhone.

I completely relate to your issues with the iPhone 4. I also had issues with reception. Fortunately the bumper seems to do the trick, so I can live with that. However, where i am taking my leap of faith in Apple is in regards to the proximity sensor. I consistently interrupt conversations with my cheek. Muting, facetime, and even end call, are all fair game. I called Applecare and they had me wipe the phone clean and set it up as a new phone. No luck. I debated returning the phone to Apple but have opted to hold out for the potential software fix. I know in my heart that this problem is much larger than has been publicized. Moreover, Steve felt compelled to at least acknowledge it's existence as an issue for some during the press conference. If we didn't love Apple our decisions to give up on the iphone 4 would have been easy. In the end, lets hope our leap of faith is rewarded.

Gosh, Katie, this entire experience STINKS. I feel sheepish commenting to say that everything's literally been roses with my family and AT&T, but it really has. 2-4 bars at work, full 5 bars everywhere in our home...and really, their customer service has been really accommodating as well, clearing up a few errors and issues.

I really hope things work out for you. I shudder to at the thought of spending $200-$300 just because an iPhone 4 doesn't work out for you...it's too bad, because nearly everyone I know with one has had an overwhelmingly excellent experience (save for one co-worker who returned his iPhone 4, no questions asked).

Best of luck to you going forward...
